The Nursery Atelier: Making Parenthood Easier, One Beautiful Space at a Time
Parenthood is often described as beautiful chaos — a mix of joy, overwhelm, sleepless nights, and endless lists of things to do. For founders Deniz and Ruohan, it was exactly this whirlwind that inspired them to launch The Nursery Atelier, a boutique service designed to take the stress out of preparing for a new baby. Their goal: make life easier, more organized, and a lot more beautiful for new parents.
“We wanted to start this business to take the stress out of preparing for a baby’s arrival and give parents clarity throughout the entire process,” they explain.
A Mission Born From Experience
Both women bring deeply personal experience to the project. Deniz, a mother of two with a background in scientific research, approaches design with observation, patience, and practicality. Ruohan, mom to 16-month-old Ava and a former strategy consultant, remembers how overwhelming it was to navigate baby products herself. Together, they’re creating a service they wish they’d had: clear, thoughtful, and personal guidance through nursery design and essential baby gear.
Their time in London also shaped their vision. “There, maternity leave is a year. Here, many moms work up until their due date and return within months. That reality leaves little time to research strollers, nursery layouts, and gear. We wanted to provide affordable, accessible design and curation to ease that burden — and help parents feel supported.”
How It Works: From Consultation to White-Glove Setup
The Nursery Atelier offers three core services, each designed to simplify the overwhelming process of preparing for a new baby:
Initial Consultation – This is where it all begins. A relaxed, exploratory conversation (in person for Houston families or virtual for others) helps Deniz and Ruohan learn about your lifestyle, style preferences, budget, and vision. They bring a prepared list of questions ranging from the practical (“How often do you plan on traveling with baby?” or “Do you prioritize cost or features like lightweightness/easy fold?”) to the personal (“What color palette resonates with you?”). Ideally, they’ll even tour your home to see the future nursery space, helping them tailor both design and accessory recommendations to your daily life.
Design Suite – A complete nursery design service. This package includes layouts, furniture sourcing, color palettes, décor options, and a full nursery setup. Every detail is thoughtfully curated and refined collaboratively with client feedback. Once finalized, they manage the entire ordering process, track deliveries, and bring the nursery to life with their signature white-glove setup. That means assembling furniture, hanging décor, washing and steaming linens, and styling every corner so the space feels warm, cohesive, and ready to welcome baby.
Accessory Suite – A complete “baby-ready” collection, curated to your family’s lifestyle. From essential gear (strollers, car seats, carriers) to curated toys and stylish apparel, this service is designed to cut through the noise of endless product options. Deniz and Ruohan use their detailed intake questions to recommend the right pieces for your needs — whether you’re a frequent traveler, a minimalist, or simply want the safest and most functional products.
Once you’ve approved your shopping list, The Nursery Atelier takes it from there. They place and track every order, making sure nothing slips through the cracks and monitoring shipping and quality. Parents don’t have to juggle multiple packages or stress about damages. By the time everything arrives, Deniz and Ruohan step in for the white-glove setup. All that’s left for parents to do is walk into a nursery that feels complete, functional, and designed with love.
“The whole process is designed to be stress-free,” they explain. “You get to skip the logistics and the heavy lifting, and simply step into a space that’s ready to welcome your little one.”
Design Philosophy: Beauty Meets Functionality
For Deniz and Ruohan, beauty, functionality, and safety always go hand in hand.
“A nursery should look beautiful, of course — but it also has to work hard for parents day-to-day and feel safe for a little one to grow into,” they say. Safety comes first, with sturdy, non-toxic furnishings and trusted brands. Functionality follows: storage that actually works, products that fit lifestyle needs, and layouts that make everyday routines easier. Only then do they layer in the beauty — calming color palettes, thoughtful details, and textures that make the room uniquely personal.
Ethical sourcing is also core to their ethos. “Parents today want to feel good about what they’re bringing into their home. Whenever possible, we highlight eco-friendly products, sustainable materials, and pieces made by small businesses or artisans,” they note.
Flexibility and Personalization
No two families are the same, and The Nursery Atelier embraces that. Existing furniture can be integrated, and clients get two rounds of revisions to ensure the design feels right. If big changes are needed mid-project, they treat it as a reset and adapt accordingly.
Timelines are quick — most designs are ready within 5–10 business days — but for parents pressed for time, a Priority Service fast-tracks designs or shopping lists in just 3 days.
A Gift That Lasts
Their services are also popular as gifts. Friends, colleagues, or grandparents can purchase design packages or curated Accessory Suites, creating thoughtful, lasting support beyond the usual registry picks. “It’s especially wonderful for second-time parents who may already have the basics but want help refreshing their nursery for a new arrival,” they share.
Why Houston, Why Now
Houston, especially the Heights, is full of young families who value both style and practicality. It’s fertile ground for their work. While their services are rooted in Houston, The Nursery Atelier also offers design and accessory curation virtually, making them accessible nationwide.
Looking ahead, Deniz and Ruohan are excited to keep growing through local partnerships, pop-up events, and collaborations with Houston businesses.
🌟 Bonus Fact: Their Design Inspirations
Their design style is practical and modern — but also deeply personal.
Ruohan finds inspiration in Studio McGee’s timeless, uncluttered style, believing in intentional purchasing and creating nurseries where every piece earns its place.
Deniz looks to Becki Owens for inspiration, drawn to her ability to design spaces that feel clean and modern yet warm and inviting.
Together, they balance timeless beauty with everyday functionality, making each nursery both elevated and lived-in.
