What's Happening in The Heights – May 2025

May Events in Houston Heights | The Heights Days | What to do in May in Houston Heights

May in The Heights isn’t about slowing down — it’s about stretching longer days into more chances to stroll, sip, shop, and stay awhile. Porch concerts drift into street markets, backyard gardens burst into full show-off mode, and there’s always a good excuse to sneak away for a live show or pick up local flowers at the market.

From historic home tours to ice cream dates between farmer’s markets, May in The Heights feels casual, a little spontaneous, and full of those blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments that make you glad you stayed close to home.

Here’s what’s happening this month — all local, all within arm’s reach.

First Saturday Arts Market – May 3

Time: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Location: 540 W. 19th St., Houston, TX 77008

Kick off your month with a stroll down 19th Street for the First Saturday Arts Market. Expect local art, live music, handmade goods, and a laid-back vibe that's stroller and pup approved. A perfect way to find your next favorite print or pick up a quirky gift (even if it’s just for yourself).

Cinco de Mayo Bar Crawl – May 3

Time: 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Location: Various bars along White Oak Drive

Later that same day, trade art walks for margaritas at the Cinco de Mayo Bar Crawl along White Oak starting at Christian's Tailgate Bar & Grill. Expect drink specials, lively patios, and that perfect mix of Heights casual and festive. Bonus points if you find the best paloma on the block.

Spring Home & Garden Tour – May 4 & 5

Time: 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Location: Various historic homes in The Heights

One of the Heights’ most loved traditions — the Spring Home & Garden Tour — returns this May. Wander through historic homes, peek into lush backyards, and get all the inspiration you’ll need (and maybe a little envy) for your next house project. Hosted by the Houston Heights Association.

Heights Theater Live Music – Various Dates

Location: 339 W. 19th St., Houston, TX 77008

Catch live performances all month long at The Heights Theater, one of the coziest music venues in the city. May’s lineup includes:

  • May 4: American Aquarium

  • May 5: Julien Baker & TORRES

  • May 6: Hamilton Leithauser

  • May 10: Ian Moore with The Mighty Orq

  • May 22: Madam Radar & West Texas Exiles

  • May 25: Allison Russell

  • May 31: The Wilder Blue

Check the full schedule for tickets — shows tend to sell out quickly.

Heights Mercantile Farmers Market – May 12 & May 26

Time: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Location: 714 Yale St., Houston, TX 77007

Sundays are for fresh produce, iced coffee, and letting the kids sample every bakery booth twice. The Heights Mercantile Farmers Market happens on the second and fourth Sundays each month — stock up on farm-fresh veggies, small-batch pastas, handmade gifts, and flowers that will somehow make your whole kitchen feel cleaner.

In the Heights – May 20 through June 1

Location: The Hobby Center, 800 Bagby St., Houston, TX 77002

Experience In the Heights at The Hobby Center — Lin-Manuel Miranda’s iconic musical celebrating community, family, and chasing dreams. Not technically within walking distance, but close enough (and absolutely worth the drive). A must-see if you love the spirit of a tight-knit neighborhood.

Whether you're chasing live music, market mornings, or margaritas in the sunshine, there’s no shortage of ways to stay busy (or just blissfully wandering) around The Heights this May.

Mark your calendars — and if you see us at the farmers market double-fisting tamales and lavender lemonade, come say hi.
